Why Electrolytes?
One of the reasons we use electrolytes is to help the body cope with the heat and humidity. During a workout, the body heats up as it tries to regulate temperature with sweat.
If we take electrolytes and water, the electrolytes hold the water and help regulate the pace of sweating, which keeps the body cooler and the heart rate lower.
If we don’t take electrolytes, but do take water, then we sweat more, and heart rate goes up as body temperature increases. We sweat out the electrolytes and that negatively impacts the muscles because we lose the key chemical elements we need for the muscles to extend and contract. We get cramps because the muscles contract and cannot extend properly.
If we don’t take electrolytes or water, we get dehydrated and our heart rate goes up as our body temperature increases. We get a headache, feel dizzy, light-headed, nauseous and fatigued.
