Hanging in there with the mental toughness
Hanging in there with the mental toughness to simply not give up, no matter what, can be good! It can contribute to our success! We want to use that trait to the fullest advantage, and occasionally activate it with a depletion workout. That said, we do not want to train into a pattern of barely holding on, and then dying at the end of each training session or race. While we want to know we can deplete if we have to (or choose to), we want to do this very sparingly. More important for injury prevention and consistent and frequent progress is ensuring that we are well hydrated, nourished and rested so that we can meet the goals of each workout successfully.
We have many elements within our control to train and race effectively. So, it becomes really important for those of us with long-term goals to continuously improve our focus on things we can do to arrive at each workout and/or race ready to meet the goals of each day.
