Endurance triathlon is about learning how to focus
Endurance triathlon is about learning how to focus, unfocus and refocus rather than constantly focusing, which can become more fixation over time if we don’t come out of it every once and awhile. Constant focus is ideal and essential for sprint and super sprint distances, but not so much for the longer endurance events. Constant focus requires constant energy. In the long distance endurance events, while we need to focus on what we are doing, we also need to detatch, relax and preserve energy as much as possible. We want to limit the number of required energy ‘draws’ and ensure that the ones we do have are specifically for keeping the body moving and functioning.
For long distance racing, we do not need to learn how to focus constantly; but rather, how to focus, unfocus and refocus fluidly over time. This skill is both ideal and essential for endurance triathlon.
